All beings are constituted of Spirit (purusha) and matter (prakriti). Yet, the human being alone is endowed with the freedom to direct thought either towards the physical, emotional, and intellectual personality, or towards Self Atman. As you think so you become (yad bhāvam tadā bhavati) is an irrefragable law of life.
Where, then, are your thoughts directed? The call of Vedanta is to awaken the Atman here and now. In the light of Self Knowledge, the personality expands and is illumined by the recognition of oneness. Thus, one becomes firmly established in one’s true spiritual identity.

Devashni Pillay is a senior disciple of Swami A. Parthasarathy and an alumnus of the Vedanta Academy, she completed the three-year residential course in Vedanta and has been teaching for over two decades. Deeply versed in the texts, she brings clarity, precision, and insight to the philosophy, making it both accessible and transformative for her students.
You must realise that your sojourn in this world is brief and precious. You need to put in your best efforts to evolve spiritually.
